Vista wants you to be happy.

It doesn't want you to fail.

So if a program tries to do something Vista doesn't like, Vista may decide to pretend to go along.  And you may be none the wiser.

Let's see what happens if you try to write data within the traditional c:\program files\ForScore\DATA folder, for example.

With new versions of ForScore (version 1.55 or above), Vista will halt with an error message:

With older (non-Vista-aware) versions, Vista fools the app into thinking it's writing to Program Files\ForScore\DATA.

However, it's really stashing the data into a hidden folder in the user's profile.  Works fine until you make a new user account for somebody to enter scores for your big match.  Scorekeeper logs on and OOPS - no match!  (She's seeing the virtualized data from her user profile, rather than what Vista hid in yours.)  Or when you try to copy your data to a thumb drive or to e-mail it to another scorekeeper, you might not be copying the right data!
